TEXAS TEST FLIGHT DAY 1 - DELTA’S INTRODUCTION TO THE WORLD

Ride report: 27.4 miles; 27.4 total miles; 18.0 mph avg; 2072 calories; 670 ft climbing

Well, the Texas test flight started a day earlier than planned.  Turns out the RV heater stopped doing that - heating - just as I was putting the finishing touches on the new TV cabinet door (pics later in this post).  This occasioned a stop by Four Seasons RV just East of Abilene (KS - apparently there’s one in Texas as well) which was about a quarter mile off route.  Kinda a no brainer.  Anyway, we left a day earlier than planned in order to give the guys at Four Seasons an entire day to work on the furnace if that should prove necessary.  Do you know how much a new Suburban RV furnace costs?  God save us...  But, as it turns out - today was proof that good things also happen in threes.  We hear mostly about bad things happening in threes, not today.

The first thing that went better than expected: when we made it to Four Seasons the guys took the rig into the shop and were back just a few minutes later.  “Dunno what you think is wrong with your heater, but its working fine now.”  They then queried me as to how I had determined that it wasn’t working.  After assuring them that I had done the same things they did, they pronounced, “Dunno what you think is wrong with your heater, but its working fine now.”  This was indeed good news.  Hearing it twice made it doubly so.  I don’t mean to mischaracterize, the technician was very helpful and polite.  And let us not forget, he was the bearer of good news after all...  Typically this happens with my bikes.  Me, “It makes a creaking noise when I ride hard.”  Shop guy, “You can ride hard?”  Me, “Let’s not get off topic.  It creaks”. Shop guy rides bike, “Dunno what you think is wrong with your bike, but its working fine now.”  Apparently the response is ubiquitous having been part of the curriculum in Learn to Repair Stuff 101.

The second good thing that happened is that as a result of spending very little time at Four Seasons we were able to take a leisurely drive to El Dorado Lake just East of Wichita where we got ourselves a walk-up RV site and spent a leisurely afternoon watching (and listening) to Canada Geese “court” on the water next to our space.  This is a good thing during the late afternoon as it breaks up the monotony of napping, but if they’re making all this racket at 0600 hours, well, we may need to talk.

Finally, and as the title of the post indicates, Delta-V went on his first outing today.  As a result I have concluded that new bikes and puppies are a lot alike.  Boundless energy and a desire to explore the world.  This is so cute in puppies that once cares not when they piddle on your sweater while holding them.  It’s a little different with a bike and manifested with a desire to go fast and ask a million questions.  By the time the ride was over I was missing Spot.  He may have been moody and a
frequent sulker, but at least he was quiet and let me ride in peace.

When we made it to town, V took this pic for me...

Of course, then he wanted a selfie...

Only to be followed by more of the same...

Well Delta, it doesn't matter that there are no cars on the highway, they still don't want anyone parking here.  And yes, I'm sure that back when people used to live here there were cars on the highway.  For now let's just be respectful of their rules because its the polite thing to do...

Delta!  Get back up here and stop sulking just because you can't park on the road.

Well Delta, I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason that Shawna can park where she wants.  No, I don't know if Shawna can park of the highway...
(Shawna - if you can read this, ur killin me.)

Yes Delta, I'm sure you're much faster.

Ah yes, and lest I forget - the much anticipated pic of the TV storage cabinet.  I made the door to match the rest of the RV cabinet doors and "wa-la" storage and space for the TV.  The sound bar was Susan't idea.  Apparently all the truckers have them installed in their rigs.

Till next time.
